Cobble Hill Italianate

This renovation refreshes an Italianate rowhouse through a careful balance of preservation and contemporary intervention, allowing the home’s historic character to remain central while supporting modern living. Original elements were retained wherever possible. Existing casework was preserved to maintain the proportions and craftsmanship of the house, and the original stair was salvaged and reintegrated as a defining feature and connective spine.

New millwork was introduced throughout as a fresh counterpoint to the historic fabric. Built ins and cabinetry are clean and precise, designed to sit comfortably alongside the original details. These elements shape the spaces through rhythm, depth, and proportion.

The interiors embrace a rich mix of textures and materials. Wood, stone, tile, and metal are layered to create moments of contrast and energy, particularly in kitchens and baths, while remaining cohesive and refined. Color is used selectively to bring warmth and personality.

The result is a home that feels rooted in its Italianate origins yet fresh and expressive. It is composed and elegant, but lively in detail, material, and craft.
